Appleby & childs – A brief history
138 Years of Business
Appleby & Childs, established in 1886, is a renowned family-run stonemasonry business based in Yeovil, Somerset.
The partnership was formed between Harry Appleby, a monumental sculptor from Castle Cary and George Childs, a marble mason from Montacute, Somerset.
We quickly gained a reputation for exceptional craftsmanship and personalised service, specialising in creating memorials, headstones and stonework restoration. Our expertise is exemplified by our work on the Yeovil War Memorial, a 29-foot high spire-shaped cross made from Ham Hill stone which was unveiled in 1921.
Over the years, Appleby & Childs has remained committed to combining traditional stonemasonry techniques with modern craftsmanship to meet the evolving needs of our customers.
Our dedication to quality and service has solidified our standing in the community, making us a trusted provider of memorial masonry services throughout Somerset, Dorset, Avon and Wiltshire.
